«Shaping the future of global surgery together»
8-12 October 2024, Essen, Germany.
The global burden of disease caused by surgical-related illnesses is greater than malaria, tuberculosis and HIV combined.
The conference was organised by the European Network for Global Surgery and started with 3-day (8-10 October) pre-conference workshops on various global surgical topics such as trauma, acute abdomen, ENT, anaesthesia, gynaecology, neurosurgery, etc.
The recent Global Surgery Conference, held in Essen from 10 to 12 October, was a resounding success. This gathering of the global surgical community aimed to assess our progress, learn from past experiences and chart a common path to achieve the goals set out by the Lancet Commission on Health.
The conference brought together a diverse and engaged group of participants, sparking in-depth discussions and generating new ideas for future collaboration.
The Next Generation Global Surgery Award was presented to two outstanding young healthcare professionals: Dr Laelle Mangourat from Haiti and Sandy Ganga from Sierra Leone. Their inspiring work exemplifies the future of global surgery.
