Artificial intelligence (AI) is already helping healthcare institutions overcome some of their greatest challenges — from automating administrative processes to reducing diagnostic waiting times. However, despite its obvious advantages, trust remains a key barrier to widespread adoption.
Based on the large-scale Future Health Index 2025 study, experts at Philips identified five key insights that can help integrate AI into healthcare in a way that inspires confidence among both healthcare professionals and patients. The MIOT team has prepared an overview of these important findings.
1. AI Should “Humanize” Healthcare, Not Replace It
The study shows that patients are open to using technology when it improves safety and treatment accuracy. Most importantly, people value the fact that AI can free healthcare professionals from paperwork, allowing them to spend more time communicating personally with patients. Technology should make healthcare more human, not more mechanical.
2. Patient Awareness Increases the Demand for Safety
People who know more about AI capabilities tend to view it more positively. However, these patients also demand clear guarantees regarding data protection and algorithm transparency. The higher the awareness, the higher the expectations for control and accountability.
3. Physicians Remain the Main Source of Trust
Even in the digital era, patients place the greatest trust in doctors and nurses. Medical professionals must become guides into the world of new technologies by explaining the benefits and reliability of AI-based solutions.
4. Technology Should Work for Clinicians — Not the Other Way Around
Only 38% of healthcare professionals believe that today’s digital solutions are designed with their real needs in mind. To build trust, AI must integrate seamlessly into existing workflows without creating additional burdens for staff.
5. Clear Rules and Accountability Are Essential
The medical community expects transparent legal frameworks: who is responsible if an algorithm makes a mistake? Clear usage protocols, scientifically proven effectiveness, and continuous monitoring are the foundation without which large-scale AI implementation is impossible.
